Vampirism

The night sharpens. The sun becomes a slow execution. And under everything, always, the thirst.

Vampirism is the most demanding gift on MCNATION: real power at night, real danger by day, and a blood gauge that never stops falling. Vampires grow through five ages — Fledgling, Nightstalker, Bloodborn, Elder, Ancient — and every age deepens both the gift and your tolerance of the sun.

Your blood runs from 0 to 100 (you wake as a vampire with 50). It drains slowly at all times — faster if you stand in sunlight — and is replenished one way only: violence. Each point of direct melee damage feeds you 2 blood.

Let it fall below 20 and the hunger takes over: Slowness and Weakness set in, deepening as the gauge approaches zero. Your action bar shows the gauge whenever hunger has you. A starving vampire is worse in a fight than an ordinary mortal — feed before the duel, not during.

And the world can see the hunger on you. While it has you, villagers refuse to trade — they recoil from the thirst plain on your face and shut the stall. Feed yourself back above the line before you try to barter; no honest trader deals with something that looks at him like a meal.

Direct sunlight burns. You get a grace period to find cover — 3 seconds as a Fledgling, +1 second per age (an Ancient gets 7) — with smoke curling off your skin as the warning. After that, the burning starts: up to a full heart per second for a young vampire.

What saves you:

  • Age — an Ancient shrugs off roughly 60% of sun damage
  • A helmet — halves the damage while worn
  • Rain and storms — block sun damage entirely; overcast days are yours
  • A roof. Obviously.

When darkness falls, the ledger flips: permanent Night Vision and a Speed boost that grows with age. Ambushes, night raids, and monster hunts are where a vampire out-earns any mortal.

You age automatically: one stage roughly every two in-game days, and time served counts even while you’re offline. There is no ritual to rush it — the blood matures on its own schedule.

The blood changes how heaven sees you. Nythrava, the First Thirst, is your goddess if you want one — her covenant is closed to everyone but vampires, and she pays her children half again on every kill. Oryndel welcomes you too, for the centuries you carry. But know your enemies: Mosswyn will not have a herd-drinker in her fields, and Ulfrayne’s wolves are taught to despise you. If you take the blood while sworn to a god who opposes it, your covenant begins to rot — the full accounting is in Faith & Affliction.

Vampires keep their own politics, separate from mortal ones. You may declare bonds and feuds with other vampires — or with entire werewolf clans. An alliance is not just words: allied parties cannot harm each other — blades and arrows alike refuse the bond.
