The Covenant

Being a true account of the covenant, as it is practiced in these lands, set down for those who would swear — and those who would refuse.

Seven gods watch this world. Every soul may bind itself to one of them — or to none. A covenant is that bond: you pledge yourself, you live by your god’s tenets, and they answer with blessings or wrath. Nothing you do goes unwitnessed. Whether that comforts or worries you depends entirely on how you live.

Open the Covenant with /cov — your standing, your favor, and a book of all seven gods with their demands and their gifts. When you have chosen:

/cov join <god>

Your favor begins at zero. From that breath onward, every deed your god loves — or despises — moves the needle.

Know before you kneel: not every god will have you. Some demand a nature you may not possess; some will slam the door on what you have become. The gods judge the body as well as the deed — see Faith & Affliction.

Favor runs from −100 to +100, mapped onto a ladder of standings. Each god names the rungs differently, but the shape never changes: fall low enough and you are cursed, then hunted; climb high enough and permanent blessings settle onto your shoulders. The summit — +75 and beyond — carries each god’s truest gift.

The scribes have measured how the gods count, and it is not kind:

The gods count virtue in tenths and sin in full measure. A deed of weight 2 earns about 0.2 favor. A transgression of weight 4 costs the full 4. Devotion is a long road; ruin is a single evening.

Those whose nature their god welcomes — see Faith & Affliction — earn half again on every virtue (×1.5).

You will feel every change: favor ticks past your action bar, and crossing into a new standing announces itself with a title. At any moment:

/cov status

Repetition dulls divine attention. The same deed counts only once every 3 seconds, and each deed can earn at most 60 favor in a day. You cannot grind your way into a god’s heart standing in a wheat field — they reward a life lived, not a macro.

You may abandon your god with /cov leave, or defect outright with /cov join <god>. Both demand confirmation, because the price is everything: your favor is wiped to zero. The gods carry neither grudges nor goodwill across covenants. You arrive at every altar a stranger.

Command What it does
/cov Open the Covenant — status, god browser, tier ladders
/cov join <god> Pledge to a god (confirmation required when switching)
/cov leave Abandon your god (confirmation required — favor is lost)
/cov status Your god, exact favor, and current standing
/cov list All seven gods with short accounts
/cov calendar The Turning Year — the months, and the gods’ holy days
/cov pantheon The Quarrels of Gods — where the seven stand with one another

/covenant and /faith work everywhere /cov does.

Two further ledgers hang beside the covenant, and both reward the reader:

  • The Turning Year — the reckoning of Wildreach. Each god keeps one holy day per year, and on it their faithful earn double favor. Devotion has a season; learn yours.
  • The Quarrels of Gods — the pantheon’s own politics. The gods’ standings with one another drift with the deeds of their congregations — including whom you kill.
